Jeff Meyer’s class on Marker Training for Detection Dogs will walk you through the process of establishing the marker training method for both the green dog as well as introducing it to a dog that is already trained in detection work. The step by step program that Jeff uses is effective and easy to implement. In this class, you will see how Marker Training for Detection Dogs will help speed up your training time. We will explain how quickly the marker will make the essential connection for the dog between the odor, his response and the reward. This class will discuss the other benefits of Marker Training for Detection Dogs, to include lessening the dog’s learning curve, aiding trainers who struggle with poor handler timing, helping reduce frustration for both the dog and the handler. Markers also assist in removing issues with handler cuing, thus making canine communication clear.

This decoy class is focused on fundamentals for new decoys. Primary focus is on leaning how to be safe for the dogs and decoys as well as learning how to read behavior. The decoy is responsible for teaching and training the dog, learning the difference in drives and how to communicate and channel those drives depending on the dog. We will cover dog behavior – genetics vs. training, what the different drives are and how to recognize them, as well as different types of equipment and tools and the differences between good and bad.
The advanced patrol dog class is either two days right after the E-Collar class using new techniques learned in that class. Or it can be a stand alone 3 day class. This is NOT a SWAT dog class. This course is designed to strengthen critical skills and decision making that patrol dog teams use on a daily basis.

The three day Precision E-Collar class starts with a classroom presentation. During the class I always ask handlers "If we go out to field and have all of your dogs muzzled and off leash will you be able to control them while other dogs are muzzle fighting a decoy with a bite suit top on and other dogs are playing with soccer balls?
The answer is most often not only no, but "hell no!'
After spending the first afternoon clearing the dogs head and building trust with the E-Collar we move into group exercises on day 2. Notice none of the dogs are stressed and all are waiting for direction. Proper E-Collar use is about communicating with your dog and shaping the desired behavior, After dogs can successfully do these types of exercises, a simple singe decoy release for certification is very easy.
This video shows the remarkable transformation that occurs by simply clearing the dog head and building trust through proper communication with the e-collar.
Using a marker for detection dogs gives you the ability to communicate exactly what you want the dog to do. Here the dog is rewarded at the second he counters the leash pull to stay on odor. This is a great exercise to teach 'Obedience to Odor.'
